Personnel changes

In 2022 Exciton Science welcomed James Hutchison as a new Chief Investigator. James had previously been an Associate Investigator working closely with Centre members. He is based at the University of Melbourne and specialises in plasmonics, organic polaritonics, SERS (bio)sensing, energy and electron transfer.

Two new positions in the professional staff team were created: Science and Industry Liaison Manager and Centre Coordinator, filled by Nick Kirkwood and Andrea Oliver respectively.

We said goodbye to Node Administrators Sam Gaul (University of Melbourne), Michelle Sullivan (University of Sydney) and Jenny Chen (Monash University) and Centre Administrator Johanna Monk (University of Melbourne), who have moved on to new and exciting adventures. And we welcomed Eileen Wu to Monash University as Project Officer.

We also saw 25 students graduate from Exciton Science, including 14 PhD, 8 MSc and three Honours students, and we also farewelled 10 postdoctoral research fellows, who have taken up new and interesting roles around the world. We are proud to see our alumni take these new steps and hope they carry fond memories of their time in the Centre with them.

We are very proud of all our alumni who have gone on to new and exciting jobs in academia at universities in Australia and globally, and into industry with companies and organisations such as Arup (T. MacDonald), CSIRO (N. Pai), Kite Magnetics (M. Michalska), IP Australia (C. Day), Dow Chemical (S. Mori) and Qenos (J. Heywood-Day).
